Description
In the heart of Pietrelcina’s historic center, in the Rione Castello district, stands the ancient oil mill, which dates back to the 1600s. Known in the local dialect as ‘u Trappito, the oil mill is part of a noble family’s residential complex, which also includes the main house with a small loggia, the production areas, and a dovecote tower.
This evocative production space, set within a residential context, still preserves all its original components—witnesses of the activities once carried out here. The air is still filled with ancient scents and enveloping sensations.
Partially carved into the bedrock, the oil mill creates a perfect blend between natural and man-made elements. The interior space is divided according to the tasks and the different stages of the olive oil production cycle. You can recognize three open, interconnected rooms, each corresponding to a specific phase in the oil-making process.
