Description
Farmhouses (masserie) were rural buildings directly connected to agricultural land, used by farmers either as workspaces or actual residences. The Forgione farmhouse is a small stone structure consisting of a single room, with no plaster or flooring. Padre Pio’s family used it as a tool shed, a place to eat meals during work breaks, and as a dwelling during the more demanding periods of farm labor.
It was here, as a child, that Padre Pio met Friar Camillo da Sant’Elia a Pianisi, the alms collector from the Morcone convent who inspired his Capuchin vocation.
